Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti brought the Chishti Sufi order to India and settled in Ajmer, where he died in 1236. His shrine grew into a great centre of devotion, honoured over the centuries by rulers and ordinary pilgrims alike.
The Chishti order is known for its openness to people of all faiths, and the dargah reflects it: a Sufi shrine where Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and others pray together.
