What this book is

From the foreword

There are moments when a practice arrives in our lives not as a novelty, but as a remembering.

At first glance, oil pulling may appear deceptively simple — an ancient daily ritual tucked into the margins of Ayurvedic tradition. But simplicity, when approached with depth, often reveals itself as precision. And precision, practiced consistently, becomes transformation.

This book is not about adding yet another wellness habit to an already crowded routine. It is an invitation to restore intimacy with the most overlooked gateway of the body: the mouth — where nourishment enters, words are formed, boundaries are negotiated, and self-worth quietly takes shape.

You will not find rigid rules here. Instead, you will encounter a ritual architecture — one that adapts to seasons, constitutions, and lived realities. Whether you are new to Ayurvedic wisdom or deeply immersed in somatic and yogic practice, this work meets you where you are, without hierarchy or dogma.

Three voices

Speaking in turn

The Rishi

Carries lineage

Seven mornings is enough to remember. One morning is enough to begin.

The Engineer

Carries evidence

Research on habit formation suggests the first week is where the highest attrition occurs — which means completing seven mornings is a real and measurable accomplishment.

The Companion

Carries practice

However these seven mornings went — whether you were perfectly consistent or stumbled through — you showed up. That is the practice.

This edition

From the preface

The book you are holding is an expansion of the first edition of Sacred Swish, which has now been published in four languages and has reached readers across thirty countries. I wrote that first edition as an introduction — a gentle seven-day invitation. Many of you wrote back asking: what comes next?

This edition answers that question. You will find the original seven-day challenge here, preserved in its essentials. You will also find a full four-stage practice architecture — the Sacred Swish Spiral™ — that carries you from first morning through a 21-day deepening, a 108-day sadhana, and finally into what I call the Daily Return. You will find a personalized doshic diagnostic, the Dosha-Swish Decoder™, that gives each reader a practice calibrated to their constitution. You will find a new chapter grounding the ancient ritual in more than twenty peer-reviewed studies on the oral-systemic axis. And you will find three voices — the Rishi, the Engineer, and the Companion — speaking through these pages in turn, because every genuine practice lives at the intersection of tradition, science, and the warm counsel of a friend.

“Healing is not what you do. Healing is what happens when you become still enough to listen.”
Prakash Chegu, Preface

A prayer for the reader

May this book remind you that purification is not punishment — it is remembrance.

That healing does not rush — it unfolds.

That your daily ritual can be your doorway to grace.

May the oil you hold each morning carry the memory of your ancestors,

the wisdom of the Earth,

and the promise of your own awakening.

About the author

Prakash Chegu is one of the most prolific voices at the intersection of Vedic philosophy and modern science. His body of work — more than two dozen published titles across consciousness science, Kundalini Yoga, epigenetics, neuroscience, and integrative wellness — has positioned him among the leading contemporary teachers translating ancient wisdom into a language the modern body and mind can actually use.

His international bestseller Sacred Swish, published in four languages and now in its expanded second edition, introduced readers worldwide to the practice of oil pulling as a daily sovereignty ritual. His subsequent books — including The Karmic Genome, The Dream Code, The Alchemy of Celebration, Quantum Prosperity, The Biochemistry of Prosperity, and The Spiritual Science of Hormones — extend the same philosophical project: to hold ancient teachings and contemporary research in a single conversation, without flattening either.
